OUR BALANCE
The Spirit of God working through the Word of God by the Grace of God in the lives of the People of God.
FIRST-TIME GUESTS
We’re glad you stopped by! Don’t worry, we’re not going to make you stand and be recognized. If you want us to contact you, please complete a card at the back table and drop it in the tithe box.
OUR PRAISE & WORSHIP
Our worship style would probably be classified as contemporary, but with an emphasis on the simplicity of glorifying the Lord. We believe and practice the following when it comes to our worship:
- Worship occurs from the individual as we devote our hearts to follow, listen, and obey.
- Worship occurs from the community when we are of one mind, heart, and accord.
- Worship occurs through song, and that is why we emphasize corporate singing and praise.
- Worship occurs through the study of God’s Word, and that is why we teach the Bible verse-by-verse.
- Worship occurs through fellowship, and that is why we commit to loving, serving, & praying for one another.
OUR BIBLE TEACHINGS
Our studies generally consist of expository teachings through the Scriptures: meaning we go verse-by-verse, line-by-line, and chapter-by-chapter. There are occasions where we will also conduct topical studies. We generally use the NKJV Bible.
OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the empowering of believers by the Holy Spirit is the lifeblood of the church. We also have a strong, biblically-based conviction that the operation of these gifts in an open worship service has been wonderfully described by the Apostle Paul in I Corinthians 12-14. Thus, we note that the Holy Spirit will not interrupt Himself as He is working through the pastor during our Bible studies. As the Lord leads, we will have special times of “waiting on the Lord” where the gifts of the Holy Spirit may be used to glorify God and edify the body. And, of course, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not limited to formal gatherings of worship; and our prayer is that His giftings to the body are used daily in our dynamic walks with Him.
OUR TIME TOGETHER AT THE LORD’S TABLE
We have communion on our first Sunday of every month. Communion is open to all believers in Jesus Christ.
OUR TITHES & OFFERINGS
We do not take-up a “collection” during our services, but rather receive tithes and offerings as they are placed in the tithe box in the back of the sanctuary. “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
OUR CHURCH MEMBERSHIP
We do not have a formal membership. Here at Calvary Chapel Tulsa we consider biblical membership to be more of an organic connectedness than a formal process or a piece of paper. Therefore, we believe the way we fulfill our purpose and the way we stay connected is through the establishment of meaningful relationships and through the development of a life of serving others. We hope, should the Lord lead, to continue sharing this experience with you.
OUR OPPORTUNITIES FOR FELLOWSHIP
We believe fellowship is an integral part of being in a church family, but we believe that families spending quality time together is of greater importance and need within our community. Therefore, we strive to plan our fellowships attempting to keep these two factors properly balanced. We also believe that our time together in fellowship should not be just a gathering or a barbeque, but a true celebration and sharing of what Christ is doing in our lives (see Malachi 3:16).
OUR CONVICTIONS WITH SERVING
We are all called to serve. However, those gifted and called to volunteer as a servant on a regular basis within a ministry of Calvary Chapel Tulsa, are generally required to rest while regularly attending our weekly services for at least three to six months (see the principles presented in Deuteronomy 20:5-7 and I Timothy 3). This allows time for the Holy Spirit to unite us in fellowship with a common vision.
OUR MINISTRY & BENEVOLENCE
We believe in applying an Acts 1:8 model to our benevolence and ministry opportunities: "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem [our church family], and in all Judea [the local community in Tulsa], and Samaria [extending beyond our local community], and to the end of the earth [international missions].
